Hubungan Indeks Massa Tubuh dengan Kejadian Shivering pada Pasien dengan Spinal Anestesi

Shivering is a complication that often occurs in spinal anesthesia techniques. Risk factors for intra-anesthesia shivering include age, duration of surgery, cold environmental temperature and low body mass index. A low body mass index loses heat more easily, where the body compensates for a decrease in body temperature to increase heat production. To determine the relationship between body mass index and the incidence of shivering in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia. This research uses quantitative methods with a cross sectional design. The sample in this study consisted of 40 respondents with spinal anesthesia who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria using a consecutive sampling technique. The research results showed that respondents with a normal body mass index experienced the most Shivering under anesthesia with 5 respondents (12.5%). The results of the bivariate test with the Chi-Square Test show that the data results are Asymp.Sig= 0.000<0.05. It can be seen from the contingency coefficient value which is 0.556 which means 55%, so it can be concluded that the relationship between the two variables is strong. From the results of the correlation coefficient, it points to positive, where the lower the body mass index, the higher the risk of experiencing Shivering in patients with Spinal Anesthesia. Based on the results of the research above, there is a relationship between body mass index and the incidence of shivering in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia.
