Background: Patients undergoing laparotomy with general anesthesia have several factors influencing their recovery time to consciousness, including age and duration of surgery. Objective: To determine the relationship between age and duration of surgery with recovery time to consciousness in laparotomy patients at the Central Surgery Department of RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya. Methods: This study employed a descriptive-correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 48 laparotomy patients under general anesthesia from April to June 2023, selected based on inclusion criteria. The research instrument used the Ramsay Sedation Scale, and recovery time to consciousness was recorded from extubation until a Ramsay score of 3 was achieved. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation tests. Results: There was a significant relationship between age and recovery time to consciousness (p=0.030, α=0.05), while there was no significant relationship between the duration of surgery and recovery time to consciousness (p=0.197, α=0.05). Conclusion: Age is associated with recovery time to consciousness in laparotomy patients, with older age leading to a longer recovery time. The duration of surgery does not affect recovery time to consciousness in laparotomy patients.
